Sanlorenzo Sea Trials First Hydrogen Fuel-Cell Superyacht

Sanlorenzo has begun open-water sea trials of the first 50Steel equipped with its methanol-reformer hydrogen fuel-cell package, developed with Siemens Energy. The system supplies all hotel loads at anchor and in port with zero direct emissions.

The technology, first previewed at the Monaco Yacht Show two years ago, has now cleared Lloyd's Register provisional approval. Serial availability across the Steel and Explorer lines is targeted for 2027.

Sanlorenzo's CEO framed the milestone as the beginning of the end for generator-set reliance at anchor — historically the single largest source of onboard emissions and noise complaints.
